Drop Us a Line!
Hey, applicant families. Many thanks for your interest in ESLA! As an optional part of your school search and application process, current ESLA parents are available to chat and answer any questions you may have about community life in the Middle or Upper School. Often these are some of the most important conversations you can have as you look for the perfect home for you and your student, and our Parent Ambassadors are more than happy to speak with you about their experiences at ESLA—and about what makes this school unique.
Please feel free to introduce yourself to any of the Parent Ambassadors below via their email address listed. They will be back in touch to schedule a time to chat over the phone.
Taj Melhuish ’23
My son, Taj, just entered ESLA for the 9th grade and previously attended Chandler and St. Mark’s.
I've worked for years in the entertainment industry as an assistant director, a writer, and a director. My two elder sons completed school and went on to university without the benefit of a school like ESLA to nurture them and prepare them for their futures. I am so impressed with ESLA's commitment to its community and to a rigorous education in an environment where students can blossom and prosper. I am available to chat at your convenience!

Our family has been at ESLA since our son, Hank, first began in the 6th grade, and we wear that badge proudly! We have loved watching ESLA grow and evolve, and we have loved watching our son grow and evolve along with it.
My husband and I wear many hats professionally, and we appreciate both the rich diversity of the ESLA community and its quirky, outside-the-box character. Finding a school community is indeed such a unique and exciting adventure, and we are happy to share ours and help with any questions you have!

I'm the proud parent of Gavin—a member of the Class of 2019, ESLA’s third graduating class—and Dylan, who is currently in 9th grade.
Both of my students attended Jefferson Elementary and entered ESLA in Middle School. They are extremely passionate about this school and its community—as am I! All told, our family has been a part of the ESLA community for over seven years. I'd be delighted to talk to applicant families about why we’re so passionate, and I look forward to hearing from you!

I have two sons enrolled at ESLA; Christopher is in 9th grade and Jonathan is in 7th grade. They both started at ESLA after elementary school at West Hollywood Elementary. They both play tennis competitively and love to skateboard.
I work in the design industry and am very involved with the West Hollywood Design District. I am more than happy to talk to other parents about our experience at ESLA and look forward to hearing from you!

Caroline Ellis ’20
I work in the entertainment industry. I have a daughter, Caroline, who started ESLA in 7th grade and is now a senior, and I have another daughter in college. I remarried when the girls were little and had a son, who is in fourth grade at Temple Israel of Hollywood, now Briskin Elementary School. My wife is Jewish, though I am not. My kids have been in a total of eleven different schools (okay, a lot of that was pre-school, but still…), including many years at Larchmont Charter.
We’ve had a terrific experience at ESLA, and I am happy to talk about any and all of the above!
Tess Peyton ’22
I’m a mom who works for a political marketing nonprofit. Tess is my youngest daughter and I have an older son who graduated from Oakwood (2010), as well as an older daughter who graduated from Arete (2011).
I would be happy to talk to families about life in the Upper School, especially for girls. I look forward to connecting!
Kiavash Vakili ’24
I am a not-so-recent transplant to the West Coast. I grew up in New York and moved to the Los Angeles area about 20 years ago. Professionally, I am an attorney who has been practicing law for over 25 years. Personally, my husband and I have been married for over 23 years and we have two kids who are 16 and 13 years old.
Our 13-year-old son, Kiavash, attended elementary school at St. James’. He entered ESLA in 7th grade and is currently in 8th grade. He loves the school and so do we! I am happy to discuss any questions about Middle School life at ESLA, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Oliver Barnes ’25
I am the executive director of a non-profit arts organization, and my husband is the director of an environmental consulting firm.
Our daughter started at ESLA two years ago in the 9th grade; she previously attended Immaculate Heart. Our son started last year in the 6th grade; he previously attended Third Street Elementary. Both of them have been extraordinarily happy with their school experience, and both have excelled academically. They have truly blossomed at this school.
It's no small thing when your kids are itching to get back to school after summer vacation. Or when they're waking up for school before the alarm goes off. That’s the sign of an amazing school community. And that’s the thing about ESLA. Our kids are truly HAPPY there, while also experiencing an excellent education with inspiring teachers. I’d be more than happy to speak with applicant families about both the Middle and Upper School!
