Athletics Update

From Mark Zalin, Athletic Director:

Ever resourceful coyotes have found both early morning and evening time slots to improve their basketball skills. US girls basketball, and both MS boys and girls basketball hopefuls have taken to the court in the early morning before school to hone their skills for the upcoming season, as well as the US boys team who take to the court in the early evening.

After MS tryouts this week, our governing body, FIYA will meet with ESLA and other league coaches to draw up the season schedule. Look for games to begin in the new year and extend to the end of February.

US teams open up their inaugural California Interscholastic Federation Basketball season as members of the Galaxy league (yes, it is indeed out of this world) with road games on Dec 11 and 13. Games will be double headers with the girls playing the opener and boys the later game for the first half of the season and then reversing order for the second half. 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 through December.

Anyone who was lucky enough to see the MS and US volleyball teams play this Fall or watch the Cross Country runners know the enthusiasm ESLA student athletes bring on a daily basis to every venue they play at. Please come and see them when your time and schedule permit. You will be glad you did!

Winter Service Drive

ESLA’s Service Council, in conjunction with Sister Margaret of Covenant House, is kicking off the Winter Blanket, Beanie, and Sock Drive! Help those experiencing homelessness this season with a donation of new blankets, beanies, and socks. Donations can be dropped off on campus. Please send any questions to service@es-la.com.

Teachers’ Christmas Gifts

A message from Lucy Norland, ESLA parent:

ESLA has a tradition of giving a Christmas gift to each of the faculty and staff members. It is a once-a-year financial gift that comes from all of the parent and student body to express our gratitude to the faculty and staff for their work. The deadline to contribute is Tuesday, December 11. (We cannot accept anything later.)

If you would like to contribute, you can do it online by clicking this link: https://teacherschristmas-gifts.cheddarup.com

Or if you prefer to leave cash, please put it in an envelope for attention: Lucy Norland and leave it at the school front office.

There is no suggested donation amount. No contribution is too great or too small.

This collection is entirely parent-led, and separate from the Annual Fund.

Thank you for your generosity!
