Well, here we are. The final newsletter of the school year. It has been another marvelous lap around the sun, and we’ll be back at it in the fall. So, for one last time before summer, onto your news:

As always, your agenda from today until the end of time is embedded below. Remember, you can always check the ESLA Agenda on this site by navigating to “My ESLA” > “ESLA Agenda” or simply plugging into your navigation bar.

Everything You Need to Know About the Final Days of School:

The final days of school involve a lot of moving parts, and (trust us) we know it can get a little tricky keeping track of everything. SO! Here’s a full rundown of everything you need to know. Please read thoroughly!

THIS Wednesday, May 29: Graduation Rehearsal for ALL SENIORS

Seniors will meet after chapel THIS Wednesday, May 29 from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. to rehearse for the commencement ceremony. Maya Hill is giving the last student chapel talk so you know it will be good!

THIS Thursday, May 30: FINAL DAY OF SCHOOL, Tech Return, and Baccalaureate

THIS Thursday, May 30 is the FINAL DAY OF SCHOOL and the evening of Baccalaureate! This is a normally-scheduled day of classes in the Middle School, and an exam day in the Upper School. All students are required to be in FORMAL DRESS for the duration of the school day and Baccalaureate. This includes Upper School students taking exams.

All students must return their ESLA Chromebooks and chargers on the final day of school. Students who fail to do so will receive a fee and some seriously bad karma. Math and science teachers will be reaching out to students about returning calculators they may have borrowed during the year.

Students are welcome to remain on campus between the end of the school day (or their exam) and the beginning of Baccalaureate. Snacks and activities will be provided! Alternatively, students may be picked up after the school day (or their exam) and return for Baccalaureate.

Baccalaureate runs 6:00–8:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, 1760 N. Gower St. Parking is available in the larger lot on Carlos Ave. All students are required to attend Baccalaureate, and families are strongly encouraged to join. Students and faculty members who are participating in the service should arrive and report to Ms. Hollaway and Mr. Thorne by 5:30 p.m.

Baccalaureate is ESLA’s third and final major school feast. At this service, we celebrate the end of the school year, award the Sacred Tiller, commission new members of the student councils, and announce the recipients of academic awards and the Founders Award. It’s, like, kind of a really big deal, so don’t miss it.

And, yes, it’s a feast! A reception with delicious food will follow the ceremony in Mears Hall.

THIS Friday, May 31: NO SCHOOL!, Senior Dinner

THIS Friday, May 31, will be a Head of School’s Holiday! Mr. McCormack asks all students to start their summer break one day early. All classes have been canceled on that day! This will allow teachers to get a head start on their grading and packing up classrooms for summer storage.

Senior Dinner runs 6:00–9:00 p.m. in Mears Hall, First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, 1760 N. Gower St. Parking is available in the larger lot on Carlos Ave. This is an invite-only event for seniors, senior families, and juniors. (Invites were distributed via Paperless Post.)

Senior Dinner is one of ESLA’s most cherished traditions—an intimate evening when faculty and administrators honor our graduating seniors and their families. We deliver toasts, bestow gifts, and generally everyone weeps with joy.

Saturday, June 1: Graduation

Our Commencement Ceremony is THIS Saturday, June 1, 10:30 a.m–12:30 p.m., in the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, 1760 N. Gower St. The graduation speaker will be our very own Jay Johnson! Parking is available in the larger lot on Carlos Ave. A reception will follow the ceremony.

Students and families are not required to attend graduation, but everyone is invited!

Capstone Highlight!

 From Jane McCarron, Capstone Coordinator:

The Capstone Project is the culmination of a student’s studies at ESLA. In their junior and senior year, all ESLA students design and complete an interdisciplinary project that showcases their talents, interests, and research efforts. Rooted in each individual project is a connection to the mission and the virtues of ESLA.

"Hey there, Joe Baldwin!" Joe joined ESLA in 9th grade and put ESLA's Theatre Department on the map. President of the International Thespian Society, "Boblin" of Boblin and the Goblins Improv Group, and a principal actor in all three Main Stage shows this year, Joe juggles his commitments like a seasoned pro. Between rehearsals, Joe manages to sneak in Cross Country practice, Community Life Council, and Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica.
