ESLA Family Newsletter, September 3, 2019

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! It was marvelous seeing everyone at Convocation and kicking the year off right. Week Two is already upon us, which means we’re back in the pocket, holding the groove.

Onto your news!

Agenda!

As always, your agenda from today until the end of time is embedded below. Remember, you can always check the ESLA Agenda on this site by navigating to “My ESLA” > “ESLA Agenda” or simply plugging es-la.com/agenda into your navigation bar.

Please note: We’re doing a little maintenance on the backend of the Agenda. You may see a small red error message at the top of the applet, which you can ignore. The “Student Life” calendar will be live again very soon.

ESLA Student/Parent Handbook Online

If you need a refresher, or perhaps just a fresher, a full PDF of the ESLA 2019-2020 Student/Parent Handbook is on the MY ESLA section of the website.

Arrival Time at School, Traffic Speeds, and Drop-off

A Message from Peter McCormack, Head of School:

The first class starts at 8:30 a.m. each day, which means that the latest practical drop-off time should be around 8:20 a.m. to allow students to sign in and get to class on time. The school is open from 7:30 a.m. and breakfast snacks are available from 7:45 a.m.

Please drive slowly as you approach campus! Of particular concern is speed on LaBaig (immediately east of campus) where the church preschoolers are dropping off in the morning. If this is part of your route, please drive LaBaig at a speed that ASSUMES A PRE-SCHOOLER WILL DASH OUT SUDDENLY INTO THE STREET. That's very slowly! Thanks.

Remember that drop-off and pick up is on the church side (north side) of Carlos, NOT the south side of the street. And please remember to drive WEST on Carlos Ave., not east! (See below). You may park in the Carlos lot if you need to come into school.

SHE KILLS MONSTERS - AUDITIONS!

By Qui Nguyen
Wednesday, September 4
3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

All ESLA students are welcome and encouraged to audition for this year’s Main Stage production. A comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games, She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly's Dungeons and Dragons notebook, however, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with dangerous fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, acclaimed young playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.
